Urban planning and architecture

Stuttgart-Vaihingen is undergoing a transformation from a commercial-industrial area to a service location that will increasingly dominate the cityscape with large administrative buildings. In the course of this urban redevelopment, the street Am Wallgraben is developing its character into a commercial boulevard. The planners have implemented this valuable boulevard character in their urban planning concept for POLARIS OFFICE, which forms an urban ensemble with the adjacent but independent new CAMPO Novo Business building. The new building ensemble, situated in a prominent urban location at the beginning of the new commercial boulevard Am Wallgraben, symbolises the shoulder-to-shoulder relationship of two units that stand independently and yet are strengthened by each other. At the same time, it represents a homogeneous part of the future urban design.

With its elevation in the urban space, POLARIS OFFICE forms the prelude to the future commercial boulevard. With the square area facing the public traffic area, it creates an extended urban space that represents the address and at the same time invites people to linger. The structure, which frames the urban space with a generous cantilever, is rectilinear, vertically structured and is thus an element of the clear context of the commercial use.

Architecture

A sign for the whole area

The finely accentuated vertical window bands are located in niches that are set back in terms of both colour and space. The windows form two-storey packages, which give the façade a lively appearance. They are framed by a light vertical banding. A two-storey plinth forms the base. While the façades facing the street are restrained and clearly gridded, the façades facing the square are characterised by balconies that allow users to experience this urban space from the upper levels as well.
